WordPress is undoubtedly one the most widely used CMS in the world. It’s free, easy to set up and more importantly , easy to manage. WordPress also gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to feature integration.
In this article we are going to learn how to install wordpress on our local system ( windows Computer 😉 ).
In this article we wanted to explain the detailed process of installation of wordpress.
But before proceeding with actual installation we first need 1 tool/software called WAMP. Details of which are given below.
WAMP : You can download from here
Once you have wamp installed on your system, we have to do 4 things
- Create a database Create a database
- Download WordPress
- Create a virtual host
- Setup the wordpress site
1. Create a database
- Start your wamp server
- Go to any browser and visit http://localhost/phpmyadmin
By default WAMP’s phpmyadmin doesn’t have a password, so you can just put the username as “root” and you can login.
Once you are inside you can create your database by clicking “new”, as shown in the screenshot.
Then enter your database name and click on create
Your database is now created.
2. Download the wordpress
- Go to https://wordpress.org/download/ and download the zip file of wordpress setup.
- Then go to www directory of the wamp server, create a new directory with any suitable name ( i have put “wordpress-learning”) and unzip the content. Given below is an example
3. Creating a virtual host
A virtual host is basically like a temporary local domain which you can use to access your site. For eg in this article we are going to create virtual host called “mywordpresssite.local”. Which, when you visit in your browser, you will be able to access your website.
To do that, you have to go visit http://localhost/add_vhost.php?lang=english
Then put your virtual host name and also add the directory path where your wp setup is present. Given below is an eg
Once that’s done, you have to restart your Wamp server. And your virtual host is created.
4. Setup the wordpress site
Now you have to visit your virtual host link, which is “mywordpresssite.local” and finally now you can start the actual installation of you site.
After visiting your link, you have to select your language
Then you have to add the database name which you had created earlier , and username.
Once you have added the database details , you have to set up your admin login credentials which you will be using later to manage your site.
Then click on install wordpress and that’s it. Your wordpress setup is done. Now if you visit “mywordpresssite.local” you will see your site.
For admin login just visit ‘mywordpresssite.local/wp-admin” and login with your credentials.
And just like that , you have created your own wp website.
